Burger King Gets Served on Twitter

In case you’re on a Twitter strike, here’s the quick 1-2-3 of what happened. Somebody purporting to be McDonalds hijacked @BurgerKing – and there they took over the account graphics along with many graphic (in a bad way) tweets. BK was all the buzz on Twitter for a bit – and they garnered over 10,000 followers in 10 minutes – until Twitter shut it down. Since you can’t see the activity now (and I’m guessing it will no longer be there once the account comes back online), here are some screen caps that span about 10 minutes of time:

How did this happen? At this point no explanation has been given, although iThug was getting shout outs… Let this serve as a reminder to brands and people everywhere that while we are free to use social media, we don’t own our profiles – they own us.
