Liquid Mistletoe: Deleón Tequila Ad Review
This holiday-timed print campaign for Deleón Tequila is running with the headline “Liquid Mistletoe.” As someone who got her start as a copywriter, I love this line. And I have to say, I like the ad. Sure, I doubt that either of these gorgeous models would require any sort of alcohol to get the other in an amorous mood, but that’s not the point – at least it’s not the point of alcohol advertising.
Rather, this sets an overall mood to draw you in – and with only a small reference to the bottle (front left with a big “D” worthy of Gary Oldman’s private stash in Bram Stoker’s Dracula) and a small reference to the brand and headline (they don’t appear in the above image snagged from the company’s website, but in print a small logo and small headline, Liquid Mistletoe, appear in the lower right corner above the throw rug or blanket or downed drapery or whatever that is).
The rich color palette. The beautiful scenery. The clever line. It’s enough to have brought Deleón into my consciousness. I’d never heard of it and I don’t drink tequila, but I am now considering purchasing this as a Christmas gift for a tequila-loving friend. And in the end, isn’t that the mission of this holiday ad?
